Handmade Pine Needle Baskets & Gourds

Handmade, natural  baskets made from longleaf pine needles with one of a
kind Native American and other unique designs.  Gourds made using
carving, woodburning and painting to create pieces of art.

The pine needle  baskets are created using the coiling technique, which is
one of the oldest methods of basket making. The basket is created by coiling
and stitching one continuous bundle of pine needles around and on top of
the row below. The foundation of the basket is formed with a bundle of pine
needles bound together with natural fibers such as raffia, sinew, and threads
to create these all natural baskets.

Pine needle baskets have been around for a long time, and many cultures
have created various usable items from them, basketry being one.  The
Native Americans were probably the first in this country to create these
baskets.

The gourds I use are hard shell gourds that lend themselves well for carving
and wood burning.  I also make baskets out of them.

As you search my site, you will find finished pine needle baskets and gourds.
Be sure and read "about me" to learn more about my technique of basketry
